The next Madden game will be announced this week, release in August, and include a $100 premium edition that gets players into the game a few days early. That’s according to a leak from billbil-kun (via VGC), who has a solid track record for reporting on unannounced video game news.

The game will be announced on May 16, the report said, and that’s the same day that the official countdown clock for EA Sports College Football expires. So EA may have two big football announcements to make that day.

The report said Madden NFL 25 will launch on August 16, but people who buy the Deluxe edition or subscribe to EA Play can begin playing on August 12. This is standard procedure for Madden games, as EA is known to give early access to people who spend more money.

But through its various iterations–from 2D to 3D, with beat-em-up spin-offs and even a reboot in 2011–its identity has remained consistent with its two core tenets: scandalous and over-the-top violence, and dark, dire, and melodramatic storytelling.
